With most Shopify themes, you simply download the theme files and then use Shopify's Theme Editor to customize the theme. There is no accompanying app.
But Convertify isn't like most Shopify themes. Convertify is a "super-theme" with a lot of extra options (i.e. Power-Ups) and built-in functionality (including easy updates). That's why there's a Convertify App.
The Convertify App is used to manage all things Convertify, including:
- Downloading the Convertify theme
- Updating to the latest and greatest version of the Convertify theme
- Adding custom CSS and JavaScript code to your theme without having to edit the actual theme files
- Activating and customizing Convertify's built-in Power-Ups
- Learning about newly released Power-Ups
- Managing your Power-Up plan subscription (if you choose to subscribe)
- Accessing Convertify's support center and ticket system
After you have installed the Convertify app and downloaded the Convertify theme, you'll see that the Convertify theme is accessible (and editable) from both:
- The Shopify Themes page (Shopify admin panel > Online Store > Themes - Theme library), and
- The Convertify App (on the Convertify Theme Library page).
You can launch the Shopify Theme Editor interface (which allows you to customize the Convertify theme) from both of the above locations. They're just two ways of accessing the same thing. The only difference is that the Convertify Theme Library page in the Convertify app will only list instances (copies) of the Convertify theme that you've downloaded (whereas the Shopify Themes page will list ALL themes you've ever downloaded -- or which came preinstalled -- on your Shopify store).
Regardless of which of the above two options you use to launch it, the Shopify Theme Editor is the interface you'll use to customize the free Convertify theme (see a tutorial on using Theme Editor). Within the Shopify Theme Editor, you can create your home page content, choose your store's color scheme and typography, choose your page layouts, upload your logo and favicon, and select various page options and settings.
So to recap, you won't actually use the Convertify app for customizing the Convertify theme. You can launch the Shopify Theme Editor interface from within the app (by clicking the 'Customize' button on the Convertity Theme Library page), but you'll actually do all of the customizing and editing of the theme within Shopify's Theme Editor.
Power-Ups, on the other hand, ARE managed and configured within the Convertify app. You don't activate or configure Power-Ups in the Theme Editor. You activate and configure Power-Ups on the Theme Power-Ups page in the Convertify app. Click here for guidance on configuring Power-Ups.
